Estates: It's Not as Difficult as You Think

Did you know if you are named as the executor, you are personally liable to get this job done right?

That’s a lot of pressure. We understand, but it doesn’t have to be as difficult as you think. The key to keeping it under control is organization!  Completing the tasks and meeting the deadlines. If you stay on top of your duties, it can go rather smoothly and have a rewarding outcome. Here are some steps to help you get started:

  1. Find and read the Will, this document will guide you through the entire process and on all the decisions you will make.

  2. Plan and manage the funeral, this isn’t your job as the executor, however the expense will become a major part of the Estate.

  3. Notify Social Security, Retirement accounts, VA, employers ect.  Think of everything the decadent had, and try to notify and secure as many assets as possible.

  4. Consider hiring help, Cope Mosaic has a detailed customized plan to help you through the process called our Mosaic Path.

  5. Right away cancel memberships, subscriptions, anything that would be taking money out of the Estate.

Once you have done these steps, it is smooth sailing!  A lot of Estate transactions are done up front, you will then just be waiting on the assets to sell, and your job is to gather everything into one Estate Bank Account.  See not so bad? You can do it!
